Glenn E. Von Tersch practices primarily in the areas of patents and trademarks, applying for and advising clients on protecting their Intellectual Property assets. His technical experience includes a broad range of Silicon Valley technologies. Mr. Von Tersch is a member of the California and Washington State Bars, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Von Tersch is admitted to and has appeared before numerous Federal District Courts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Additionally, he has managed intellectual property proceedings before administrative bodies and courts outside the United States.
Mr. Von Tersch formerly worked as an engineer in Silicon Valley and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program at the University of California at Berkeley. He previously served on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California’s Intellectual Property Section, on the Board of the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Law Association (SVIPLA) as a Past President, and as a Trustee of the U.C. Hastings (1066) Foundation. Mr. Von Tersch also previously served as a member of the Advisory Board of the High Technology Law Institute (HTLI) of Santa Clara University. Moreover, Mr. Von Tersch has contributed time as a Guest Lecturer teaching a course for a Quarter (term) at the University of Washington.
Stanton Connell Braden is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Juris Doctor (JD). Additionally, Stanton holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from Purdue University.
Stanton is a member of the bars of New York, Texas and Illinois and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Stanton has many years of experience in practice before the USPTO particularly with arts involving semiconductors, circuits and wireless communications.
Stanton has previously served as Senior Patent Counsel to Qualcomm Inc., Chief Intellectual Property Counsel to Infineon Technologies North America Corp., Manager of U.S. Patent Operations for Thomson Consumer Electronics, and Division Patent Counsel to Texas Instruments Inc.
Stanton is also a Registered Professional Engineer (Texas) and a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP). His practice is limited to patent and trademark matters before the USPTO.
Nyall Engfield B.ASc, J.D., has an electrical engineering degree from the University of Waterloo and a law degree from the University of Calgary, and is a member of the California bar only. Nyall has extensive experience advising on legal aspects of protection of technology in the US and internationally. He also works in patent licensing and trademark prosecution. As a result of his electrical engineering background, he has a special interest in electronics and software.
Before working as a technology attorney, Nyall worked as an engineer with the TD Bank, Verizon and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in data mining and business intelligence as well as telecom and network engineering. For years Nyall expanded his experience as an attorney at a boutique intellectual property firm in Ottawa, Canada before founding MU Patents in San Diego.

Doug Sorensen has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a law degree from University of Nebraska and an MBA from Southern Methodist University (SMU). He is a member of the Texas, Nebraska, and California Bar (California Bar Membership inactive) and is admitted to practice before the USPTO and several federal courts.
He has over 30 years experience in Intellectual Property law including experience in filing, prosecuting, and litigation for patent applications working both as in-house counsel for Fortune 500 companies and a top ten (worldwide) law firm.
Doug’s areas of expertise include semiconductors, communications, and other areas.
Dan Hopen has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington and a law degree from Seattle University of Law and is a member of the California State Bar, Texas State Bar, and is a registered Patent Attorney with the USPTO.
Dan spent the first part of his career at the United States International Trade Commission and then worked as both in-house and outside counsel for large technology companies, including Texas Instruments Inc. and Sun Microsystems. With over fifteen years of legal experience in the intellectual property arena, Dan has served in a rich variety of capacities and roles. He is experienced in working with large Intellectual Property portfolios as well as working with inventors to identify important and innovative technologies to provide broad patent protection for the invention.
He also has experience in other areas of the Intellectual Property field including trademarks, copyrights, licensing agreements, and litigation.
Arpee Apoyan, B Sci., LLB, graduated with a degree in Science, majoring in Medical Science from The University of Technology, Sydney, where she continued to complete her law school education. Arpee is admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales as an attorney. During law school, Arpee earned significant academic achievements in the areas of ‘Genetics and the law’, ‘Medicine and the law’ and ‘Commercial law’. In her science degree, she excelled in her focus areas of advanced hematology and biotechnology.
Before joining MU Patents, Arpee worked with the in-house legal team of a top ten global pharmaceutical company. Arpee also has extensive experience working in sales, marketing and account management roles across various industries. She is particularly interested in supporting new patents within the research and technology arenas, as she appreciates the wider health and commercial value of bringing these ideas to the market.
Arpee was born and raised in Sydney, Australia and comes from an artistic family, some of them being inventors themselves. She is inspired by the particular innovation hub that is unique to California and the progressive culture that it represents. Outside of work, if she’s not challenging herself with a calisthenics routine or swimming, she’s probably cooking up another cultural cuisine or planning her next trip to a remote destination.
Jeff Mirich graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physics and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University with an emphasis in design and manufacturing. His completed coursework and program provided him with a foundation in CAD design, systems application, and trouble shooting.
Jeff is an experience customer service representative, and strives to make sure every client has an excellent experience. Before joining Mu patents, Jeff worked in customer service and instruction as a surf and surfboard construction instructor. He finds enjoyment using his expertise in knowledgeable subject matter to guide, teach, and help clients with anything they may need.
Jeff is a California native and can be found at the beach in his free time. He enjoys all aspects of the ocean, but especially surfing. He designs and makes all of the surfboards that he rides. He also enjoys travelling to exotic beaches in far away destinations when he can find the time.
Chenea Matos earned her Bachelor in Literature and Writing Studies from California State University, San Marcos. Chenea brings her experience to MU Patents from the Property Management and Insurance industries, where she refined her high paced support management skills and developed a love of working with clients to provide a superior customer service experience.
Born in Washington State, Chenea loves the rain and the crisp feeling of Autumn. When she’s not in the office, Chenea can be found reading in a nearby park, dreaming of traveling abroad, or rewriting classic fairy tales to bring them into the modern age.
Jessica Ortiz graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a Bachelors Degree in English. Jessica first gained experience helping her family create an administrative position for the family business. There she was responsible for overseeing billing, coordinating with employees, as well as interacting with customers. Jessica has carried that skill and talent to MU Patents where she will apply her superb and friendly customer service skills to assisting clients.
During her time at Saint Mary’s Jessica took the opportunity to study abroad in Australia for a semester and has been a fan of travel ever since. She looks forward to traveling the world more with her fiancé. When not working, Jessica enjoys drawing, watching movies, and listening to good music.
